1. Trampolines are simply a piece of fabric stretched over a steel frame
including coiled springs. Variations on this theme include large, round
backyard trampolines,
rectangular
versions with high bounce heights for gymnasts,
mini
trampolines for indoor exercising, or
inflatable
water trampolines for fun at the lake.
2. Choose an
octagonal or
round
trampoline for your backyard. These shapes are very stable, so they
won't tip over, and the bounce rate will be even throughout the whole
bed.
Octagonal
versions won't force you into the middle while you jump, and the
straight sides provide a focal point to orient the jumper.
3. The
fabric used in your
outdoor
trampoline mat doesn't have to be black. Perk up your backyard with
a colorful version, and look for waterproof or UV-treated fabric that
will last longer.
4. Trampolines eliminate the force of impact
from aerobic activities like running or jumping, making a rebounder mini
trampoline the ideal workout accessory for people with joint pain.
5.
Some mini trampolines fold and have carrying cases, while others are
low enough to slide under your bed for easy storage. These trampolines
have a low bounce height so you won't hit your head on the ceiling.
6.
The aerobic benefits of a mini trampoline workout can be enjoyed by
anyone. Even sitting or standing on the trampoline while moving your
arms will improve your balance and core strength. You can add a
removable stability bar to some mini trampolines to assist with extra
balance.
7. For best results when exercising, bend your knees as
you come into contact with the trampoline bed and push off as you leave.
Maintain your balance by focusing on a distant, stationary point,
rather than watching your feet hit the surface. Control is more
important than height; start your bounces low until your jumps become
consistent.
8. Adding a
large
outdoor trampoline to your backyard will provide a fun outlet for
your kids' boundless energy. They'll bounce for hours, never realizing
that they are getting great exercise, improving their balance and
coordination, and developing their physical fitness at the same time.
However, don't let kids bounce for too long during a turn, as this
activity is much more tiring than it seems.
9. Always supervise
your children while they play on their outdoor trampoline, and never let
them onto the trampoline without a safety net in place. Only one child
should jump on the trampoline at a time to prevent contact injuries.
Prohibit showing off with flips or somersaults, which can result in
serious injury in the event of a bad landing.
10. The momentary
weightlessness experienced at the apex of a jump can be addictive and
exhilarating, but exercise caution before beginning a session. Always
inspect the springs, frame, padding, and fabric for signs of wear or
damage before climbing on to any trampoline.
